‘My International Future Depends On World Cup’- Lionel Messi
Five time Ballon d’Or winner and Argentina captain, Lionel Messi has said that his international future depends on the performance of his country during the World Cup tournament in Russia.
In an interview with Spanish daily sport, Messi said, “It will depend on how far we go, how we’re going to finish; that will determine my future. ”
“We’ve just lost three finals in a row, which has made us to go through some difficult moments with the press,” added the Barcelona forward.
“Notably with the Argentine press because we have differences of opinion over what it means to make these three finals.”
During the world cup final in 2014, Argentina lost 1-0 to Germany after extra time, before suffering another defeats at the Copa America in 2015 and 2016.
Messi also said that during the World Cup in Spain, Brazil, Germany, France and Belgium were the leading contenders for the title.
He stated, “There are lots of teams who arrived with lots of confidence, with both team game and individual talents.”
Argentina will start their World Cup campaign on Saturday against Iceland in Moscow, with games to follow against Croatia and Nigeria in Group D.
